Alberta’s longest running consecutively held rodeo turns 90 this year. The Hand Hills Lake Stampede is set to go this weekend. From its humble beginnings as a fundraiser for the Red Cross during war times, it has become one of the most entertaining rodeos on the circuit. And this year the stampede promises even more fun for cowboys and girls of all ages. To find the Hand Hills Lake Stampede grounds, travel north out of Drumheller, follow the Verdant Valley road (Highway 576) east past Highway 861. Continue for 11 kilometres on gravel, then turn left and drive five kilometres north to the rodeo grounds.
