Summer storm brewing in Rosebud

Electricity is in the air about Alberta's largest musical of the summer

Like the calm before the storm, there is electricity in the air at Rosebud. Something big is brewing at Rosebud Theatre – something really big. According to locals, Rosebud Theatre is ramping up for its biggest, brightest and boldest production ever -- Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat -- a high energy musical from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice that will capture the hearts, minds and ears of Albertans from June to September.

“When one considers the intimate setting of our 200 seat theatre, producing a vibrant, multicultural musical extravaganza like Joseph with 25 actors on stage is something akin to ‘Mission Impossible’, ” says Artistic Director Morris Ertman. “A play this big and this intricate is going to challenge every fibre of every member of our cast, creative team and technicians. Our Rosebud stage and indeed the entire town is going to have to stretch its skin to accommodate the shear magnitude of this musical.”

Ertman sums up the electricity charged atmosphere that surrounds Rosebud. “You can see, hear and feel the energy. Right now our technical crews are knee deep in costumes, sets, props and lights. Music Director Bill Hamm has the band prepped so that we can begin rehearsals this week. Slowly, we will build on and harness this energy and hit the ground running with the largest-scale musical production in Rosebud’s history opening June 2nd.” Continually raising the performance and production bar for live theatre is becoming a trademark of Western Canada’s largest rural professional theatre. With an on-stage cast of more than 25 performers, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is the most ambitious production ever seen in Rosebud, and will be Alberta’s biggest musical of the summer.

Now entering its 23rd season, Rosebud Theatre has built its stellar reputation for providing audiences with outstanding theatre productions during the summer months. Unlike many theatres that go on vacation for the summer, Rosebud has continually offered it patrons memorable performances and stage productions. Rosebud Theatre is anticipating 10,000–14,000 tickets will be sold for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice runs at Rosebud Theatre from June 2nd to September 2nd. Interviews with Artistic Director, Morris Ertman are available upon request.
