Big Country Aniques and Classics Show and Shine

bigcountry.jpg Break out the tire shine and the Turtle wax - it’s time for the 6th Annual Big Country Antiques and Classics Association Show and Shine. Held Saturday, June 10th at the Midland Hall between 9 a.m. and noon, this car show is the perfect event to show off your four-wheeled pride and joy or to simply stop by and check out some of the hot rides around town. Entry fee is $5 per vehicle and dash plaques will be awarded for the first 50 entries. Midland Hall is located off of North Dinosaur Trail. When travelling towards the Royal Tyrrell Museum, look south into the community of Midland. Organizer Kent McLellan expects anywhere from 30 to 75 vehicles that will range between anything from Detroit muscle to John Deere Tractors. “Whether your car is from 1909 or 1999 it doesn’t matter, bring it down,” said McLellan.

Aimed at gearheads and the just plain curious, this show has something for everybody, including a full concession and fantastic door prizes, not to mention some beautiful vehicles.

Have a project on the go? No problem, the Show and Shine has a variety of trophies to give away, including a ‘Work in Progress’ trophy. Other trophies include the ‘People’s Choice,’ which the spectators get to vote for their favourite car, a ‘Best Backyard Restoration’ award and a ‘Best Tractor’ award. Also included is the ‘Young Guns’ award which is given to the best amateur mechanic. Another great reason to bring your ported and polished beast for the show is that all proceeds will be given to charity. “After we cover all the costs of the event we give the rest away,” said McLellan. “The more people who come the more we can give to charity.” Even Kent's wife Twyla is geared up for the big event, as she gets ready to show off her two mean ‘67 Chevrolet Camaros. The Big Country Antiques and Classics Association Show and Shine is the perfect event for the car enthusiast in you and is sure to keep your motor running.
