The St. Anthony’s Sabres Senior boys basketball team split their last two games as the regular season winds down.

The Sabres were in Trochu on Wednesday, February 9 to take on Trochu Valley School in a regular league game.
This was the two team’s second match up of the season, and the Sabres continued to dominate Trochu. Sabres were up 40-9 after the first quarter and continued their pressure to the end winning 113-45. Alex Cliché had 28 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks in the contest. The team had six players in double figures, and Josh Mohan had six points, 10 assists and five rebounds.
The regular season continued Monday, February 14 as they played host to Acme. The Acme Redmen is currently ranked third in the province, and when the two teams met for the first time, the Redmen cruised to an easy win.
It appeared this might be the case again as Acme led 39-19 by half time. Acme was able to push the lead to as many as 24 points on fast break lay-ups and strong outside shooting.
The Sabres began to respond in the fourth quarter. The Sabres’ press began to produce dividends and force a number of turnovers and easy baskets. It also gave the St. Anthony’s squad some momentum as they cut the difference to just 10 points. It was too little too late as the Acme Redmen went on to a 72-59 win.
Cliché had 14 points and Brandon Gruber had 12. The Sabres left enough points to win at the charity strip, making only 12 of 31 free throws.
The regular season is winding down as the Sabres host Three Hills Tonight (Wednesday, February 16).
