Dynos drop three at tourney, fight for play-off standing

“We probably played some of our best basketball this year,” coach Ryan Hatch said about the DVSS Dynos senior girls basketball team’s trip to a High River basketball tournament.

Although losing all three games against teams from Lacombe, north Calgary, and Sparwood, British Columbia, Hatch says they held their own against the first place teams in both the A and B pool.
“We held the winning team to the least amount of points, so defensively we played really well.”
With only eight girls playing this weekend, the coach says they were pretty tired and beat up by the end of the tourney.
Offensively, Kacey Blanchett “had an amazing weekend scoring wise, really leading our team in that aspect,” Hatch said.
“Sienna Sands played really well defensively this weekend, I put her out there for short bursts and she played really hard,” he said, while adding Paula Wade had another strong game.
Nearing the end of their season, the Dynos saw the Three Hills Prairie Bible Academy’s Sabres at home Monday, and will face Acme at home again at 5:15 Wednesday, February 16.
“They’re two top teams, it’ll be fast paced and exciting games.”
Nearing play-offs, Hatch says it’ll be a challenge to qualify.
“It’ll be tough, we have a tough road ahead of us, but the girls are playing the best basketball all year right now.”
The Dynos are young, with only three Grade 12’s, three Grade 11’s and five Grade 10’s – good news for coming years.
“These young girls are getting a lot of good experiences playing at a high level.”
