The DVSS Senior Boys basketball team wrapped up their season last Saturday hosting Zones.
The Dynos hosted eight teams at the 2A Zone Championship on Friday and Saturday, March 15 and 15.
The Dynos began their tournament on Friday versus the number 2 ranked Oilfields School but lost 97-61, Putting them on the consolation side of the draw.
On Saturday morning, the Dynos went up against the Sundre Scorpions. At halftime, the Dynos were down by 14 points, but in the second half, their swarming press yielded some dividends, and they pulled to within striking distance as time wound down. It wasn’t enough as Sundre went on to a 66-60 win.
This put them in the seventh place game against JC Charyk of Hanna. The team pulled it together to finish the season with a convincing victory, winning 80-66.
Coach Jeff Messom tells the Mail he liked the fast-paced style of basketball the Dynos played this season.
“This year's team was small in size compared to most of our opponents, but it consistently defeated the teams it was supposed to beat and showed glimpses of being able to compete with stronger teams despite our size disadvantage,” said Messom.
While his team will lose a few senior players, he is looking forward to the coming season.
“Looking ahead, we have several key players returning and will be adding talent from our junior high basketball team, which placed second in zones. With this core and incoming players, we’re excited about next season,” he said.
In the end, Strathcona Tweedsmuir won the Zone championship defeating Oilfields School.
