The Dragons ended the regular season with an important win over the top team in the league.
The Dragons were on home ice in front of 917 fans on Friday, March 14 to close out the regular season versus the Calgary Canucks.
The Canucks led by one after a defensive first period, but 31 seconds into the second period Brec Christenson tied the game up. Two minutes later Calgary took the lead, but at the midway point, Alen Sherpa tied it up with his 14th of the season.
Calgary once again took the lead 48 seconds into the third period, but less than five minutes later Easton Daneault tied it back up again. After that, the Dragons went on a tear. Christenson scored his second of the game to take the lead. Not to be outdone, Daneault scored his second less than a minute later, and Jase Johnstone capped it off with an empty-net goal with 5 seconds left.
With all teams completing a 54-game schedule, the Calgary Canucks captured the Dave Duchak Trophy as regular season champs. The Dragons finished in this place, which means they will face the Canmore Eagles in the first round of the playoffs, as the top four teams in each division playoff. Each series will be seven games.
The series will begin in Canmore on Friday, March 21, With Game 2 on Saturday, March 22 Hte Draognwil be on home ice on Tuesday, March 23 for Game 3.
