The U-17 DVC Smash Volleyball Club team struck silver hosting their home tournament.
On Saturday, February 15, the Smash invited eight teams for a tournament at the Badlands Community Facility (BCF).
Coach Audrey DeBona tells the Mail this was the first time they have hosted a tournament at the BCF and she said it went smoothly. They were able to accommodate the team on two courts.
“When they did the count, there were just about 250 people, Bikes and Bites were worked off their feet, and our raffle was successful,” said DeBona. “It was great for Drum, that was the reason I wanted it here.”
The Smash invited two teams from Brooks as well as Calgary, Mountain View, Medicine Hat, and Stettler. The U-16 Smash also competed.
The U17 Smash finished first in their pool and continued to the playoffs. They met Stettler in the final but lost.
DeBona said the team had a good tournament and is playing well. They already have four tournaments under their belts this season, and have won two and came in second twice.
The Team also competed at a Premier Tournament and finished firmly in the top half in Southern Alberta In Division 2.
They have lots of season ahead and in total have scheduled 12 tournaments on their road to the postseason.
Their next tournament is a Premier event in Red Deer, on March 8 and 9.
