Organizers who once hoped to bring back the Terry Fox Foundation run in Drumheller are cancelling their plans due to a lack of interest by the community.
Marshall Gleiser had spearheaded organizing a run for September 15 in Drumheller, which would have a Terry Fox Foundation community run return to the valley after a number of years without one.
Gleiser, of Big Valley, and others had wanted to organize the run in honour of a family member who passed away due to cancer, but notified people on August 12 they have had to cancel their plans.
“Unfortunately our efforts fell short in attracting enough interest to make it into a successful event at this time,” he said.
While schools in the area participate in annual Terry Fox runs to raise money for the Terry Fox Foundation, there has not been a community run in Drumheller for a couple years. Gleiser and other organizers hope someone else can maybe pick it up next year.
“While we are disappointed, we also hope these efforts will help to renew interest for the Terry Fox run here moving forward.”
