It was a busy weekend for 14 year-old Tracker Robinson, as he battled it out on the football field for Zone 2 at this year’s Alberta Summer Games.
The Games were held from July 26-29 in Lethbridge. The team managed to come home with the silver medal victory.
“It feels really good and I feel it was a big accomplishment,” said Robinson.
Playing the final game against Zone 3, which is Calgary, Robinson said it was a tough game and in the end their team lost, but they put in their best effort.
“They played so hard. It was a whole bunch of guys who came together who didn’t really know each other. They bonded as a team so well and made friends for life,” said Jodie Robinson, Tracker’s mother.
On top of acquiring silver, Zone 2 won the Spirit Award, which is awarded to the zone that best demonstrates the spirit of fair play, sportsmanship, team spirit and co-operation on and off the field.
“I didn’t know anyone going into the Games, so it just goes to show how quickly we came together and bonded,” said Tracker.
“Everything was very well organized, the coaches were super, and I just can’t say enough good things about the experience. Even the parents had a blast cheering in the stands,” said Jodie.
Robinson plays for the Drumheller Titans and went to tryout for the Games after his coach got word they wanted players.
“I played defense and full back for Zone 2. It was such a great experience and I think the kids who are coming up in football should tryout in the years to come. It was definitely worth it,” said Robinson.
