GIRARDI
Maria

February 24, 1927 - July 20, 2021

Maria Girardi of Drumheller, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, on July 20th, 2021 at the age of 94 in the Coalbanks Unit. Maria was born on February 24th, 1927 in Cussano di Zoppola, Italy to Regina and Guiseppe Barbarin.
In 1952, she immigrated to Canada. On July 6, she married our Dad, Joseph and together raised 3 daughters.
Although Mom did not work outside the home, she worked out of her home as a seamstress, creating many outfits and doing alterations. Mom’s hands were never idle, whether it was knitting, crocheting, love of baking or cooking up an Italian meal for her family. She loved her garden, but especially had a passion for her flowers and passed along her knowledge of plants to her family.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her joy; she was always willing to share her many talents with them. The time spent interacting with her grandchildren inspired who they have become, because of her kind, compassionate and loving nature.
She was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League for 65 years. Her experiences volunteering at teas and helping with banquets was in keeping with her giving nature and she formed many lifelong friendships.
In October of 2010, her and Dad would make Sunshine Lodge their new home. In February 2020, due to illness, Mom moved to Coalbanks.
Maria is survived by 3 daughters, Rosemarie Girardi, Velma (Dan) Scott, Angie (Murray) Evans. Grandchildren: Andy (Stephanie) Doktorchik, Marriann Hammond, Lisa (Ryan) Tait, Trevor (Kayla) Scott, Lindsay Pollock (Jay), Christina (Cory) Harvey and Jordan Evans (Jess) as well as 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister-in-law Lucia Girardi and 3 nephews, Valerio, Eddie and Angelo Girardi and their families of Toronto, Ontario.
Maria was predeceased by her husband Joseph, her parents Guiseppe and Regina Barbarin and her 4 brothers, Egidio, Giovanni, Reno and Joe.
Prayers for Maria will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 29th, 2021 at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, Drumheller, Ab. A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 30th, 2021 at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Fernando Genogaling officiating.
