Wheatland County council approves extra funding for audio, visual updates

Wheatland County council approved an additional $60,000 towards the update of the audio and visual equipment in its council chambers and Emergency Communications Centre (ECC) during the regular Tuesday, July 5 council meeting.
Council had previously allocated $110,000 towards this update during the 2022 budget deliberations; however, estimates for the project were higher than originally budgeted due to rising costs from equipment scarcity and availability, as well as inflation.
“We had planned to do this (update) over the summer, and the next meeting is in August,” shared Corporate and Financial Services general manager Tracy Buteau during the meeting.
Division 4 Councillor Tom Ikert made a motion to approve the request for an additional $60,000 from reserves for the equipment update, which was unanimously approved by council.

The Town of Drumheller will suspend the Water Demand Management Measures at 1:00pm today. The restrictions were put in place on July 14. The water-use restrictions will be lifted on irrigation systems, including Town irrigation systems and the Rotary Spray Park.
“Upon review of the Water Treatment Plant operations, we are confident in our decision to lift the water-use restrictions,” shares Dave Brett, Director of Infrastructure Services. “Our staff will be reopening the Spray Park at 1:00pm today. We thank everyone for their understanding and patience as we worked through this measure.”
Residents are encouraged to continue to be conscious of their non-essential water usage.

Rotary supports Imagination Library

The Drumheller Public Library is hard at work fundraising to participate in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. This is a free book gifting program devoted to supporting early literacy for children between the ages of birth and five years. Each month, enrolled children receive a free, high-quality, age-appropriate book in the mail. The Drumheller Rotary Club signed on to support the initiative and donated $500 to get the project rolling. At the donation are Rotarians Bob Friesen and Barb Campbell, Library Board members Lynn Fabrick (holding Charlie), and Samantha Haddon, Rotary President Tania Johnson, Director of Library Services Emily Hollingshead, and Rotarian Linda Fisher.
