Relay entertainment hits stride

As organizers anticipate what appears to be a decreased turnout for this year’s Relay for Life in June, the work-in-progress list of musicians set to play that night hopes to bring new acts to entice participants.

As of Monday, local celtic-rock act Fire Coulee Bandits will be rounding out the night’s performances following country artist Ashley Rae and locals Cat Country Cougar Hunters.
“They’ll entertain us until the wee hours of the morning,” said Q91’s Bill Halman who is organizing the June 10 event’s entertainment. “There’s going to be a little bit of rock, little bit of country – we’re trying to make it as eclectic as possible and try to please everybody.”
Calgary artist Ashley Rae has a Patsy Clyne sound she has been performing since she could walk, and along with the other acts, was more than willing to donate her time for the event, Halman said.
Aaron Krabsen heads the band Cat Country Cougar Hunters which will perform throughout the course of the weekend.
Halman said there are more artists who have been invited but have yet to officially confirm. He says six to seven acts will be performing for “all the great people who’ll be walking to defeat cancer.”
“It was a priority for us to get the bands and artists who have been here in the past and were enjoyed by those who walked Relay for Life,” said Halman, “if the shoe fits, why reinvent the wheel?”
“For those raising money to fight cancer, they’ll be well entertained.”
This year’s Relay for Life, set for an all-nighter on June 10 at the Stampede Grounds, is in need of new and returning teams to register and start garnering pledges.
