Telus has announced plans to further invest in the area this year. By the end of 2012, $450,000 will be spent to improve services in Drumheller.
The announcement comes in the wake of their announcement to invest $2 billion in Alberta over the next two years.
Two weeks ago, Telus announced plans to expand its broadband services to 18 communities, including Hussar.
The investment in Drumheller will go towards improving network infrastructure in town.
“Telus’ $450,000 investment will enhance our wireless network and improve internet speeds for businesses and households right here in Drumheller,” said Fred Weinheimer, Telus general manager of Customer Solutions Delivery. “Telus is committed to making investments in infrastructure and technology.”
Improving wireless technology in Drumheller is meant to both help customers who live in Drumheller as well as benefit the many visitors to the community.
“Wireless connectivity is extremely important for people living and working in Drumheller and for people travelling through the area as well,” said Chris Gerritsen, Telus media relations.
To compliment increasing wireless connectivity, Telus will also improve its existing wireline infrastructure. The goal is to increase internet speeds for Telus customers.
Improving wireline infrastructure will include maintenance, replacement, and the addition of fibre optic cables in the area.
The $450,000 announcement is strictly meant for Drumheller, though other similar projects will be happening throughout the province.
“This money is specifically for 2012 and for Drumheller. It’s a significant amount of money, but it’s important to continue to invest in the community,” said Gerritsen. “It [internet infrastructure] constantly needs attention and improvement. It’s an ongoing process.”
