At a meeting of the Golden Hills School Division yesterday the fate of the high school program at Carbon School was decided.
However, the decision had yet to be made as of press time.
The debate over the closure of the senior high program began in response to declining enrollment.
There are 24 high school students in Carbon, a number Golden Hills School Division Superintendant, Bevan Daverne felt was insufficient to provide a teacher for each core subject.
Parents and students had a chance to give their feedback on the proposed closure at a meeting with Golden Hills School Division representatives on April 19. The feedback ranged from parents who felt the senior high program should continue as is to parents who felt the closure was inevitable.
At the meeting, several options were presented. Students could be kept together and bused to another high school, such as Acme. Another options was for parents to decide on their own where their children should attend school.
The information collected at the meeting and surveys were used to make the final decision at the May 22 board of trustees meeting.
