President of the Demo Derby Club is excited by the upcoming season, saying that they already have all 20 entered for the first event alone. “It is going to be an really exciting year, we are overwhelmed with enthusiasm,” said Larry Duxbury. What makes this season exciting is a little of what is expected, and some new additions.
Already the Hidden Valley Motorsports Park has become one of the
premier venues in Alberta for Demolition Derby. The track also attracts
healthy draw for the stock car and claimer car races, not to mention
the famous mud bog. New this year is the mini stock cars. The mini stocks are a new class of 4-cylinder racing. They are faster
than claimer cars and comply with more safety standards, yet they are an inexpensive way to get into racing. Another exciting addition this year is bringing the Highriders on
board. The Highriders are a 4X4 cub based primarily out of Red Deer.
This year they have joined forces and will be hosting the Highrider Challenge, the ultimate four-wheel drive challenge. The Highrider Challenge is set to go Canada Day long weekend, (July 1st) however spectators can get a sneak peak at some of the most durable rides in Western Canada on their newly created course. Think your truck can take on the “Frame Twister”? Once again spectators can get into the action in the claimer Car class. There are a handful of expertly prepared cars for the races that potential drivers can rent and compete in a heat. First come first serve.
The opening event is just a taste of what is coming up this year. Check
