Drumheller Stampede presents WPCA & Richard Cosgrave Memorial Pro Rodeo July 27, 28, & 29

Chuckwagon riders will be trying to beat last year’s record breaking laps this weekend at the Richard Cosgrave Memorial Pro Rodeo and Badlands Dinosaur Derby. Rae Croteau Jr. was repeat champion one year ago when he set a track record for the chuckwagon race with a time of 1:08.61, giving him his third championship in as many years.

The Badlands Dinosaur Derby begins on Friday, July 27th at 7 p.m. Riders will race in heats of four around the track at the Dinosaur Downs. The break neck speed returns Saturday, July 28th at 7 p.m. and finally the championship runs which also start at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 29th. The Richard Cosgrave Memorial Pro Rodeo is a Canadian Pro Rodeo Association sanctioned event and features many big name riders like the Calgary Stampede 2006 Bareback Champion Davey Shields Jr.

The rodeo events begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 28th and continue Sunday at 2 p.m. After the races make sure to dust off the cowboy boots and hit the dance for with the always entertaining Rick Trembley Band who will be back by popular demand. The boot-scootin’ takes places after the chuck races on Saturday, July 298h in the Stampede Barn. The Richard Cosgrave Memorial Rodeo in Drumheller has a long standing history within the valley and never fails to provide non-stop, breath-taking rodeo action. The rodeo takes its name after a tragic accident took the life of Richard Cosgrave in 1993 during the chuckwagon races at the Rangeland Derby Days in Kamloops. The rodeo and Dino Derby is a mark of respect from the many local friends and acquaintances of the cowboys.
