Computer game tournament ready to rock

guitarhero.jpgReality Bytes is hosting their first ever PC gaming event in Drumheller on Saturday, August 23.
The event is called the Geek-Out 2008 Gaming Tournament, and the day will consist of two game choices for participants, Battlefield 2142, and the very popular Guitar Hero III.
“Guitar Hero III will definitely generate a lot of interest,” said Reality Bytes owner John Shoff.
For Battlefield 2142, contestants will likely play each other all at once. Guitar Hero III will be set-up with two players battling each other on a huge big screen T.V.
“Guitar Hero is going to be a round robin elimination, so if you lose once you’re fine, but if you lose twice you’re done,” said Shoff.
Shoff will be limiting the event to only 50 participants for the first time year, but says there will be room for expansion in the future.
Guitar Hero III made over $100 million in North American retail sales just seven days after it was released on October 28, and was “the most successful launch in Activision history,” according to Activision CEO Bobby Kotick.
Local high school student and guitar hero enthusiast Chianne Amthor says it is the one on one battle modes that really bring the competition of the game to life.
“The intensity level when playing an opponent of your ability, is unmatched to any game I have played before,” said Amthor.
Shoff says another big attraction is the universal appeal the game has.
“The basics of the game are so simple, that even people that don’t like video games enjoy it. Even if you are not at all musically inclined and don’t like video games there is a chance you will enjoy it,” said Shoff.
The entry fee to join the tournament is $5 and will go completely towards the cash prize of the winner.
The prizes from the event will include high end Intel processors, ASUS mainboards, Bell cell phones, fossil watches, and Reality Bytes gift certificates. The total value for the prizes will be approximately $5000.
The event will start at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, at the Drumheller Civic Centre located above the library. All ages are welcome to register and can do so online at www.realitybytesinc.com
