Third annual DVSS Alumni Tournament a success

alumni

On Friday, December 18, the Drumheller Dynos basketball program hosted their third annual Alumni basketball tournament. Starting with one high school team and one alumni team in 2013, the tournament has become quite popular. This year, three alumni teams and one high school team left it all on the floor.

High school basketball coach and tournament coordinator, Jeff Messom, commented, “We run the Alumni tournament to celebrate basketball at DVSS.”

Starting at 7:30 p.m., the 2015-2016 DVSS Dynos played against an alumni team led by Gavin Pitman. A second alumni game followed, between captains Tyler Fournier and Kyle Smith. The championship game was played at 9:30 p.m. between Pitman and Smith alumni. Smith’s team dominated the court, with a final score of 61-47.

Smith, alumni of the 2011-2012 basketball season, has participated in the tournament for two years. “What I like the most about it is the atmosphere, and having the excitement of the crowd cheering. I also like getting to play with all of the previous Dynos.”

A total of twenty-five alumni players returned to DVSS to participate in the tournament, along with many spectators, filling the stands and gym with their love and support of the game.
