Drumheller Bantam Titans win by landslide

bantam 1

The Bantam Titans travelled to Springbank to play a game Saturday. The Titans played strong with an expected win and didn’t disappoint  their fans, winning 44-0.
Head coach Paul Redmond said, “Connor Enns, our running back, is also the backup quarterback. I had him start the game for experience and it worked well. Enns scored five or six touchdowns. Being 6’2 already, he is a fairly dominant player.”
Redmond explained that the Bantam league has no restrictions except age and grade. Without weight restrictions this can make for a big difference in the size of athletes.
“We can see a student who is barely 80 lbs next to a student who is close to 300 lbs.” Redmond laughed.
The team recovered well from previous injuries and played with a full roster. Redmond said they look good going into next weekend’s game which is an exhibition game in Strathmore on Saturday, October 8 at 1 p.m.

Senior Titans mired in penalties versus Airdrie

The Titans were locked in a defensive battle with George McDougall of Airdrie, but came up short Wednesday night.
The Titans hosted the Mustangs under the lights and in what seems to be a curse for the team, they stumbled out on offense with two fumbles in the first half, found themselves behind the eight ball.
Coach Ken Fournier said the defense, while not stellar, held, and they were able to keep the Mustangs to just two touchdowns. The offense however, was only able to muster two points, and the one burden they carried was penalties.
The team was able to march the ball down the field on the ground and had some pass completions, but penalties kept marching them back. Fournier said penalties cost the team an estimated 130 yards.
“Our net offensive yards was probably less than 100, and it was all mental errors,” he said.
    The final score was 14-2.
The Titans hope to get back in the winning column this Saturday when they head to Pincher Creek.
“Pincher Creek hasn’t put up a lot of points this season, but they do play some opponents they face year in and year out, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they are a little bit of a snake in the weeds,” said Fournier.

The St. Anthony’s Sabres Soccer team performed well on the pitch at their home tournament taking home third place.
Last Friday, September 30, the team hosted the Seventh Annual Sabres Invitational soccer tournament. They invited Olds, Strathmore and Notre Dame Collegiate of High River.
Action for the Sabres started at 9 a.m., as they took on Strathmore. They played to a 1-1 tie. At noon, they took on a strong Olds team. Last week they played Olds to a 1-1 tie, but this time, Olds won 2-0.
In the final match they bounced back and won 6 -1 over Notre Dame Collegiate, to finish in third place.
The Sabres’ season continues this Wednesday, October 5, as they play an exhibition match versus Carstairs at 4:30 p.m.
