drumstix.jpg

The DrumStix ladies hockey team weren’t able to watch Team Canada cruise to victory last Sunday, as they were embroiled in their own hockey battle. The DrumStix were in Big Valley for the  Bossy Blues Tournament. They beat Delburne and Castor in the round robin, and  faced off against Cremona in the final on Sunday, February 28. They came away with a victory. Members of the team with the trophy are (back; l-r) Marilyn Laframboise, Angel LeBlanc, Tracey Herman, Sarah Schille, Teryl Pidhaichuk, and Krista Groenveld,  with (front; l-r) Ann Wade, Karen McMillan, Karen Rusnak, Mr. Hockey, Laura Hegberg, Jodi Williams and Stephanie Christianson.  (missing Dawn Sullivan).

Registration still open for lacrosse

The Badlands Lacrosse Association is looking at mentoring its younger players with players at the more senor levels to help develop skills.
Registration night and the Association’s AGM was on Tuesday, March 2, and while numbers appeared to be down slightly, registrations are still open and coming in daily.
There are traveling teams at the novice, pee wee, bantam and midget levels. This year the tyke and mini tyke players will practice once a week and play some make up games.

The Carbon Men’s Bonspiel was held at the beginning of February from Fenruary 9 to  13. Unfortunately, there were ice plant problems which prevented the finals from being played on Saturday afternoon. The bonspiel ended with everyone in good spirits and hopefully, next year the rink will be more forgiving.       The Carbon Ladies Bonspiel was held February 24 to 27 with a total of eight teams participating. The Gail Campbell rink from Drumheller won the first event and Deb Grosfield’s team from Carbon won the second event.  Heather Boyd’s team from Carbon won the third event and Jaclyn Canning’s team from Carbon won the fourth event.
The Hawaiian theme was a huge success and many displayed a variety of tropical items from grass skirts, leis to flip flops!
