Dozens of young people in Drumheller and throughout the province built a hockey memory that will last a lifetime right here in the valley, over the weekend.
The Western Chev Bantam Raptors hosted the T3 Provincial Championship in Drumheller. The Drumheller Memorial was alive all weekend from the opening ceremonies to the final puck drop. President of Drumheller Minor Hockey Jason James was pleased with the success of the tournament.
“Things went very well,” said James. “The fans and the parents were very happy and excited. It was a nice pat on the back.”
He adds many participants did take the time to enjoy the valley.
The Western Chev Bantams knew they were in tough for the tournament. They were close in their first game versus the Edmonton Oil Kings, but were not able to pull out a win for the tournament.
“There was lots of competition, but they had fun,” said James. “They will remember this the rest of their lives. Even though they didn’t win a medal they will remember it.”
Paul Isaac, Zone representative echoed the importance of these kinds of experiences for young people.
“I said (to the coaches) this weekend is hockey, but real life happens after,” said Isaac. “I said as coaches you are shaping young men and women to be adults. This is just one venue kids are allowed to experience team and work together. It is a pretty eventful thing for these kids.”
