Local riders shine at Raymond race

On August 19, a few riders from the Drumheller Off Road Vehicle Association (DORVA) made their way to the Temple Hill Motocross Park in Raymond, Alberta to compete in the Southern Alberta (SOAB) Series 8 race.

This was just two weeks after the club hosted the SOAB 6 and 7 Series races at the DORVA Motocross Track, located just off of Highway 9 south.

“Once again the Drumheller crew rocked it out there. Everyone had  really good moto’s and they all made it home without injury,” said Casey Christensen, president of DORVA.

He said the weather and track conditions were extremely nice for race day.

“Our riders showed incredible sportsmanship during the event. I was very happy to see that,” said Christensen.

He said that even though overall the race went well, there were still a few obstacles the DORVA members had to overcome.

“There were some mechanical issues with a few of our riders’ bikes but they worked through it and kept on racing,” said Christensen.

“Most importantly, fun was had by all.”

Results for the local riders went as follows: 55 cc seven to eight year olds, Tori James placed second, 65 cc PeeWee, Barett Christensen first, Spencere James, second, 85 cc seven to 11 year olds, Barett Christensen placed second, Spencer James, sixth, 85 cc 12 to 16 years old, Decklin Christensen placed third, Dustin Fooks, sixth, Super Mini, Dustin Fooks placed fourth, Decklin Christensen, eighth, Junior MX2, Lucas Van Hecke placed fourth, Intermediate MX1, Duncan Michie placed fifth, and Ben Fooks finished first in Vet Master.

There is one more race to finish off the SOAB series in Brooks, Alberta on September 9.
