Rumsey resident earns factory ride from Yamaha

Riding his way to the top, during the Western Canadian Amateur Nationals (WCAN) held at the Temple Hill Motorcycle Park in Raymond, Alberta from  June 27 to 30, Daniel McNaughton has scored one of three factory rides from Yamaha Canada.

Earning the most points out of any Yamaha rider at the WCAN, McNaughton will receive his choice of a Yamaha dirt bike for use during the 2013 season, and $2,500 in parts and accessories.

“I’m really happy and excited. I didn’t think I could do it but here I am,” said McNaughton.

Placing fourth overall in the Junior B class, fourth overall in the Schoolboy class, and second overall in the MX3 Junior B class, McNaughton certainly rode his heart out during the amateur nationals.

“He did three motos so he was a pretty tired boy by the end. We were just so happy for him, it was his first time at nationals and we weren’t going there to win. Just to ride and have fun,” said Sandy McNaughton, Daniel’s mom.

Spending his riding time between Alix Xtreme Raceways Motocross Track and the DORVA  Motocross Track here in Drumheller, McNaughton has worked his way up. He said he began riding when he was four years old and has loved it since.

“I would tell someone starting out to just go for it. Go to the track and ride, ride, ride,” said McNaughton.
