Madison Lang and Kali Fournier, of the Drumheller Rage girls softball team, will be participating in this year’s Alberta Summer Games.
“I’m really excited, it should be a good time and a really good learning experience,” said Kali Fournier, 15, of the Drumheller Rage.
After attending various tryouts throughout the year, the two girls were chosen to participate in the games.
“I was so excited I almost cried when I found out,” said Madison Lang, 14, of the Drumheller Rage.
Both girls have been playing ball for numerous years now, and travel to Calgary twice a week for regular games because the team is registered with the Calgary Softball League.
The Summer Games will take place in Lethbridge, from July 26-29.
A provinical initiative for amateur sport, the Alberta Summer Games started back in 1974 with the intent to provide an opportunity to allow all Albertans to participate.
Fifteen sports are included in the games: athletics (track and field), baseball, basketball, canoe/kayaking, cycling - BMX and mountain biking, football, inline hockey, lacrosse, rugby, soccer, softball, swimming, triatholon, and beach volleyball.
The Drumheller Rage will be hosting provincials in Drumheller starting July 6, so both Fournier and Lang should have plenty of practice in before the Summer Games.
