Red Eye Tournament moves to Morrin Bridge

Long hot summer nights will be even longer come August at the Annual Red Eye Memorial Tournament.

The tournament in benefit of the Morgan Jayne Project and the Chris Bolin Memorial Fund, will be held this year on August 24-26, a few weeks earlier than normally.

Duane Bolin said the move the date as so it won’t be in conflict with other events in the valley such as the Dinosaur Half, and “hopefully it will be a little warmer.”

The tournament goes from Friday night, straight through to Sunday morning, light or dark, rain or shine, making it a unique event that gives each team a chance to play under the bright lights.

The venue has also changed for the fourth annual tournament. In previous years they held the event at the Hoodoo Resort and the Rosedale diamond. This year they have moved to the Morrin Bridge Recreation Area. This change will allow the tournament to expand.

“This will open it up to more teams, we were kind of limited to 20 when we were having it here,” said Bolin. “This means we’ll have three diamonds, we hope to put lights on two of them.”

Bolin expects they will have about 20-30 teams come out. The registration fee per team is $375, the same as last year. Camping is on site, but not included with registration.  The prizes will be finalized when team numbers are firmed up.

To get ready for the tournament they are looking not only for teams but also volunteers. A concession runs throughout the full three days.
