Students from DVSS have been hitting the field to prepare for one of the harbingers of summer, track and field. One of the teams has already put their skills to the test during the recent zone championships.
Last week, on Wednesday, May 23, the senior high track and field team headed to Calgary to compete in the zone championships.
The DVSS senior high team is comprised of four members, Dare Balogun, Kendra Schmidt, Madison Colberg, and Tofunmi Olohunwa. Schmidt and Colberg qualified for and participated in zones.
Schmidt competed in the hurdles and Colberg in the long jump. Both posted personal bests in their respective events.
“The girls felt that the day was a success for them and were happy with improving their personal results. They both felt they did their best that day,” said Dawn Sullivan, coach for the team.
The junior high teams will be competing this week in track and field. The 11 members will be heading to divisionals this Thursday in Linden and to zones the following day in Calgary.
