CHAYKOWSKI
Irene (Lenfesty)
January 10, 1923- April 8, 2011
It is without a doubt that the world has lost a wonderful person from its mortal presence. Our dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed onto a new dimension of life. She lived in a time of great adventure from horses to spaceships, to women’s rights and in that time created a great family of friendships. She upheld many traditions-too many to mention, but her cherished one that we can all recall was her passion for personally writing hundreds of Christmas cards each year so she could keep in touch with all those that she met. She was a career woman and worked from the early age of 18 after leaving her home in the Hand Hills. As a family we were fortunate to have her impart her wisdom in all her life’s experience. She will be sorely missed, but we know that with each prairie breeze we feel upon our faces it will be her embrace to remind us that we are not alone. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 15 at 2:00 pm at the Evergreen Funeral Chapel, 16204 Fort Road, Edmonton AB with visitation to take place one hour prior. For those attending her funeral, we remind you that this is a celebration of her life and that if you knew her, you knew she never wore black. Please join us in this celebration of her journey and in lieu of flowers - save the flowers, (she would have liked to see them growing) Donations may be made in Irene’s memory to the Alzheimer Society Edmonton Chapter, 10531 Kingsway Avenue, Edmonton AB, T5H 4K1. We’d also like to thank the staff and volunteers that tended to her care from both the Grove Manor in Spruce Grove and more recently the Good Samaritan Cottages in Stony Plain…life is but a journey and Double G made it count.
