WOLF, Waldemar

Thanks for the Memories… That’s what Dad would say to visitors after his stroke on July 22, 2010.  He was thankful for his family and friends and the life he had lead.  On January 18, 2011 shortly after 1:00 am he took his final breath at 87 years of age. Waldemar Wolf was born in Neuhoffnung, Russia to German parents on October 29, 1923.  At the age of 6 he and his family left Germany for the promise of a better life in Canada. In 1940 he met the love of his life, Sarah (Sally) Steel. They dated sporadically then more seriously for about a year before they decided to marry. Waldemar joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942 and on May 1, 1943 they were married in Medicine Hat, both 19 years old. After leaving the Air Force in 1945, they started farming in the Michichi area, then moved to Verdant Valley to his father’s farm at the top of the Clark Hill. Tim was born in 1947 and Jennifer in 1952.  In 1958 they had the opportunity to purchase farm land in the Munson area and jumped at the chance.  In 1962, Becky was born and their family although spread out was complete. Waldemar and Sally enjoyed farming together. Their circle of friends grew over the years. Waldemar enjoyed golfing and curling.  He enjoyed telling stories of curling adventures and the shots that took his team to championship events.  Although he liked curling the thoughts of sun and sand were more compelling and he started traveling to Hawaii in 1975.  In 1981, Sally joined him in Hawaii and from that time on they would spend three months a year in their beautiful Hawaiian home.  They were so pleased when visitors from home would come to visit and share their Diamond Head view. Waldemar and Sally decided retirement might be a good idea so they purchased property and built a new home in Midland in 1991.  They continued to travel to Hawaii each year until just last year 2010. The family would like to thank Dr. Graham and the Drumheller Health Care staff for the special care they gave Dad during the last few months while in the Drumheller Hospital. Dad leaves behind his Wife, Sally, Son Tim (Rory) Wolf, Daughter Jennifer (Mike) Wolf-Davison, Daughter Becky (Bill) Kowalchuk.  Grandchildren: Kelly (Shelly) Wolf, Avy (Corey) Wolf, Cameron (Colleen) Robb, Pam Robb, Brent (Cassandra) Robb, Michelle (Shawn) Robb, Lindsey (Travis) Kowalchuk, Travis Kowalchuk, Jared Kowalchuk, Brother Alex (Alvina) Wolf, and Sister in Law Nina Wolf as well as  numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial Donations may be made in honour of Waldemar to Munson and Area Community Association, new hall building fund. Courtney-Winters Funeral Chapel entrusted with arrangements (403 823 2666).
