TARR, Loral May

Loral May Tarr, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the Drumheller Continuing Care Facility. Loral was born in Coronation, Alberta, one of five children of Ida and Joe Sheridan. In her earlier years, Loral played girls softball with the “Howlett’s Colleens” with their mentor Shorty Howlett, and she always loved a baseball game. She attended Nursing School at Ponoka, affiliated with the Calgary General Hospital, graduating with her RN in 1939 and worked in the Drumheller hospital for over 30 years. She married Jack Tarr in June 1940. Loral loved travelling with Jack and camping with family and friends. She also enjoyed playing cards with her bridge club, family and at the Pioneer Trail Centre. She also loved to knit - with or without a pattern, read, do crossword puzzles, enjoy lunch with friends, and attend the nurses’ socials. Loral was always very particular about how she dressed, ensuring that her clothes and jewellery matched. She was always interested and involved in her daughters’ and grandchildren’s lives and loved to spend time with family. She wasn’t afraid to express her feelings, and her sense of humour was always with her even during the last difficult months. She was predeceased by her husband Jack, son-in-law John and her sister Adess and her three brothers Bob, Phil and Roy. She leaves to celebrate her life daughters Ouida Gerat and Lynn Petersen (Don), grandchildren Jeff Gerat (Kim), Jo-Lynn Larsen (Wade) and Christopher Petersen (Chelsi) and great grandsons Ty, Travis, Easton and Carter, and numerous nieces and nephews. A private family service to celebrate Loral’s life was held on Monday, January 17, 2011 with Rev. Jan Richardson officiating. The family would like to thank all the nurses and staff at Drumheller Continuing Care for their wonderful and thoughtful care of Loral. If friends so desire, donations may be made in her memory to Drumheller Continuing Care, Recreation Department c/o Lisa Simmill; 351 - 9th Street NW; Drumheller, AB; T0J 0Y1 or to the CNIB, Calgary - 15 Colonel Baker Place NE; Calgary, AB; T2E 4Z3.
