POPE, Milton
(Emilian Popovich)
February 4, 1919 - November 8, 2010
POPE, Milton (Emilian Popovich), born Feb. 4, 1919 died suddenly on November 08, 2010 at Evergreen Baptist Care Home where he resided until his death. He and his wife Margaret also enjoyed their time at the Peninsula Retirement Community and were grateful for the company of friends and staff. Milt was born in Drumheller, Alberta and held fond memories of growing up there. He was the son of Mara and Eli and beloved brother of Barney (Maxine), nieces Brenda and Sharon and their families. He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Margaret; his children Dale (Kathleen) of Vancouver, Jane (Doug) of Oshawa and Dean (Susan) of Ottawa and his grandchildren Kris, Carley, Alexander, Alysha, Kathryn, Emma and Lain. Milt was a gentleman and lived his life with dignity. He left Drumheller as a teenager to pursue major league baseball and was in the Chicago White Sox organization. During WW2, he embarked on a career in public service, first as a member of the RCMP, receiving commendation from the CIA for his work during the war and later with the Windsor Police. Thereafter, he worked in the insurance industry in Windsor in a business he developed, nurtured and later sold to grateful purchasers. After selling the business, he relocated with Margaret to the Rocky Mountains where, in retirement, he found energy and satisfaction in assisting the women and men of Parks Canada, a part time position he loved and held until 85! His remaining years were spent with Margaret, his children and grandchildren in Canmore and White Rock. He will forever be remembered and greatly missed by his family and all those who came to know him. A Celebration of Milt’s Life will be held on Friday, November 26, 2010 at 1 pm at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831-28 Ave, Surrey, BC.
