DUMONT, Elinore
April 8, 1937 - October 30, 2010
Verna Elinore Dumont (nee Folstad) passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, October 30, 2010. Elinore was born on April 8, 1937 in Weldon, Saskatchewan and lived most of her life in Drumheller until God called her home unexpectedly following cardiac surgery. Elinore was predeceased by her father, Edwin Folstad, and an infant son Reginald. She left behind to grieve her husband of 53 years, Michel; her mother Emma; 2 brothers, Gerald Folstad (Lillian) and Ken Folstad (Joanne); 2 sisters, Marlene Zacharias (Burt) and Donna Martin (Dean); 5 adoring children: Lorie Gordon (Thom), Lois Tchir (Ken), Sharon Donais (Stan), Stephen Dumont (Carrie), and Jeff Dumont (Connie). In addition, Elinore felt blessed to have 15 grandchildren: Jennifer Gordon, Anjanette Clement (Jeff), Ryan Gordon (Sara), Jared Gordon, David Gordon, Jody Tchir, Kristy Purcell (Rob), Nigel Tchir (Skye), Christopher Donais (Melissa), Nicholas Donais (Martha), Amanda Donais, Azraie Dumont, Benjamin Dumont, Katelyn Dumont and Jonathan Dumont; and 10 great-grandchildren: Kailey Clement, Joshua Clement, Michael Clement, Justin Clement, Raylee Gordon, Oscar Gordon, Eva Gordon, Gabrielle Purcell, Emeric Purcell, and Xander Tchir. Elinore was a loving mother and proud grandmother/great grandmother that always put her family at the top of her priority list. She was also an avid promoter and proud supporter of the Drumheller Passion Play, where she volunteered many hours of her time for several years until health concerns forced her to cut back. She had a great love for God and made every effort to go to church, and when she couldn’t make it, you can bet that Sunday morning church programs would be on TV in the kitchen. Elinore was very proud to tell you that when she was a young girl she received an award for not missing Sunday School for 15 years, so even as a child Elinore knew the importance of God in her life. Another thing that was very important to Elinore was her World Vision foster child of many years. She tried to encourage others to share and help the less fortunate. Elinore had a light-hearted fun side too, and when she would get the giggles she would laugh until she had tears rolling down her cheeks. She loved angels, stars and sparkles and had quite a collection of them. She couldn’t resist a new angel ornament or package of sparkly star stickers to put on birthday, anniversary or Christmas cards. It was her way of personalizing everything she touched – just like she touched our hearts. Thank you to the caring staff of the Foothills Hospital Cardiac and IC Units, and to Pastor Curtis Boehm for all their help during this difficult time. A celebration of her life will be held at the Grace Lutheran Church in Drumheller on Friday, November 5 at 2:00 pm.
