It is with heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Fred Morgan. Fred was born on February 3, 1942 in Drumheller, AB. Fred was the oldest child of 6 children. He was born to Reg and Eileen Morgan of Morrin, AB. He was a dedicated brother, father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
Fred grew up in Morrin and had a great love for sports. In the winter he spent many hours on the ice playing both curling and hockey. In the summer months you would find him on the baseball field or camping.
Fred and Bev (Schrock) Morgan were married in 1964 and lived in Rumsey. They raised 4 boys, David, Rodney, Scott, and Jason. The boys grew up in the rink watching Fred and participating themselves in all their father’s sports.
Later in life, Fred married Alice Martin where they grained farmed at Morrin. They wintered in the south part time and Fred took up golfing.
Fred met his life partner Beth Hanson in 2002, and they resided in Drumheller. They both loved to golf, camp, travel to visit family and friends in which they may have found the occasional casino along the way, and spend valuable time together. They were always up to watch their grandchildren playing hockey, baseball, dancing, curling and any activity that allowed them to spend time with their favorite people.
Fred’s work life consisted of hauling sand and gravel, working for Starland County, then Alta Gas as an equipment operator and lastly went to Big Country Gas Co-op where he finished his career. Post-retirement, Fred continued working for Kneehill Soil Services, Drumheller Valley Bus, and for Phil Grenier and Brian Miller on the farm during seeding and harvest. On top of working, he volunteered with the Rumsey Fire Department where held the position of Fire Chief for several years, the Big Valley Elks and Morrin Lions Club.
Though, Fred battled cancer for 18 plus years, he always maintained a positive outlook on life and was never one to complain. He was a soft spoken, kind hearted man who loved his family. Fred was recently given news that he was terminally ill and was sent back to the Drumheller Hospital for his remaining few months. With the sad news, the family prepared themselves for the last remaining months, but Fred had other plans. He slipped away peacefully in a manner of couple of days.
Fred was predeceased by his parents Reg and Eileen, and youngest brother Earl.
Fred is survived by his life partner Beth, Fred’s son’s David (Brenda), Rodney (Patti), Scott (Dannette) and Jason (Brandy). His Grandchildren Courtney (Taryn), Taylor (TJ), Dallas (Natalia), and Chesney, Great Grandchildren Case, Brantley, Mesa, and Beth’s son’s Barry (Cheryl), Brent (Sue), and Dale and siblings Gloria (Orman), Gary (Joan), Doug (Ruby), and Joy and numerous niece and nephews.
We would like to thank Dr Britz, Colleen and all the wonderful healthcare providers for the love and care they showed Fred during his many stays at the hospital. Donations can be made to the Drumheller Palliative Care in honor of Fred.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring to honor Fred.
