Dr. Neffgen passed away at the Drumheller Hospital on November 15th, 2024, at the age of 86.
His medical career began when he graduated with a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Ottawa, Ontario in 1973. He then completed a further 4 years of studies in internal medicine at Toronto General Hospital and Toronto Wellesley Hospital.
During the years 1978-1989 he was the Clinical Director of the Intensive Care Unit, then became Chief of Medicine at the Brandon General Hospital in Manitoba.
His career continued when he went to serve with NATO at the Canadian Forces Hospital in Lahr, Germany from 1989-1993.
Dr. Neffgen and his wife Christeen moved to Drumheller in 1993 to join his colleagues at the Drumheller Hospital and Drumheller Associated Physicians. He continued working until 2016, at which time he retired from medicine.
During his time at the Drumheller Hospital, he was influential in establishing both the Cancer Clinic and Cardiac Rehab programs. He also served as a member of the Drumheller and Area’s Health Foundation.
He was predeceased by his wife Christeen in 2015.
He is survived by his brother Eberhard and niece Daniela as well as other family members.
