HALASE
Hilda

1929 - 2021

On October 28 in the early morning hours, 3 weeks shy of her 92 birthday, Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep, to join Dad, Frank Halase, and her four sisters, Sara (Sally Wolf), Annie (Dart), Isabel (Willows), and Delores (Susie Verstrepen), and her Mom Lizzie Steel.
She was a resident of Stanford Seniors Village in Parksville, B.C. Vancouver Island.
Mom was born and raised in Drumheller and spent many years there with her close family.
Mom worked at the Drumheller Hospital when she met her husband, Frank, in 1945. They were married two years later in 1947. Mom was a hard worker from the get go, and they proceeded to build their own house shortly after. Two years later they welcomed their son, Doug, followed by their daughter, Sharon, three years later.
When the kids started school Mom went to work for Anderson Drugs, and worked there for 25 years.
Many happy years were spent in Drumheller raising their children and being with her sisters and her Mom.
Upon dad’s retirement from the family Auto Body Business in 1990 they moved to Sorrento, BC, to live on the Shuswap Lake there. They loved the lake life. Not being afraid of work though, for the first four years after moving, Mom returned to Drumheller in the spring to manage the Co-op Garden Centre.
Mom was always an inspiration to us, as she took great pride in her home and yard. And there was nothing she wouldn’t try her hand at.
In her spare time Mom loved to quilt and knit, and many relatives and friends received her works of art.
In 2006 after Dad’s passing, Mom moved to Parksville, B.C. to be closer to family, and where she could garden even more. She maintained her own home and yard there until she was 90. Two years prior we convinced her to at least let someone cut her lawn, but she could often be found pushing her own self propelled mower, because they didn’t do it quite right.
After a bad fall in her 90th year, she took up residence in Stanford Senior Village in Parksville.
At Mom’s request there will be no service, and she will return to Drumheller to a much deserved rest, beside Dad.
Mom will be missed by her 5 Grandchildren, and 13 Great Grandchildren.
We will miss you Mom,
Doug and Sharon
