April 5, 1931 - September 21, 2018

Edwin William Dutka beloved brother of Peter Dutka of Edmonton, Alberta passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on September 21, 2018 at the age of 87 years. Edwin was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, on April 5, 1931 to Wasyl and Angelina Dutka. The family moved to East Coulee, Alberta when Edwin was a toddler. Edwin went to school at East Coulee School which is now the Museum. In the early years Edwin worked for Sloan’s Garage and the Aetna Mine in East Coulee, Alberta. Edwin moved to Calgary and was employed with Prudential Steel from 1957-2007 where he retired. Edwin returned to Drumheller to live with his niece Bonnie, then into LTC. Edwin was a private pilot and was at one time involved with three planes flying out of Springbank Airport. He was a Chief Pilot for C.A.R.E.S. and was a Trap Shooter belonging to the A.H.E.I.A. Calgary Firearms Centre. Edwin held many memberships such as Hussar Fish and Game Association, Alberta Hunter Education, Calgary Flying Club and Drumheller Flying Club, and Hussar Trap Shooting Club. Edwin loved his many Springer and Brittney spaniel dogs. He took many trips to Christina Lake Lodge and enjoyed flying his sister Almira and niece Bonnie to many family weddings in Dauphin, MB, Saskatoon, SK, and Winnipeg, MB. He enjoyed taking many friends and family up in his plane. He also enjoyed walking the Wintering Hills and the East Coulee Valley. He never turned down helping with remodelling projects. Edwin was predeceased by his brothers; Trp Adam Dutka, Martin Dutka (Margaret), sisters; Jesse Anderson (Carl), Helen Moses (George), Almira Simpson. Besides his brother Peter Dutka, Edwin is survived by his 9 nieces and nephews; Leslie-Ann Craig (Larry), Karen Johnson (Dwaine), Bonnie Freeman (Elwood), Leanne Haltiner (Ken), Janice Little (Ray), Peter Dutka (Marilyn), Nancy Dutka, Shelley Yuskow (Larry), Bill Moses (Donna), good friends; Joe Fulop and Willy Samel, as well as numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews whom he adored. A Memorial Social will be held Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at The Hangar Flight Museum, formerly the Aerospace Museum, 4629 McCall Way N.E., Calgary, Alberta.
