Kathleen Lowen passed away May 14, 2016 at Rosefield Center in Innisfail. She was 96 years old and 11 months. Kathleen was born in Ryharsh, Kent, England on June 10, 1919 to Lizzy and Henry Mills. She out lived all her siblings Jack, Frank, Ethel, and Edith. Her twin brother Frank was killed in North Africa during the war. Kathleen worked on Tiger Moths during the war, she went flying in them even though her Mother forbid her to do so. She spun the prop on the planes even though she was only five feet tall. During the war Kathleen met Kenneth Lowen and they dated during the war and Kenneth sent for her after he got home. Kathleen and Kenneth were married and farmed at the Horseshoe Canyon for over 50 years. Kathleen left behind a Heritage of Honor. They had two children. Elizabeth (Harvey) and Frank (Marylea). Elizabeth has three daughters; Mellissa Robertson, Tanya Graff and Sara Graff. Great-grandchildren Katherine, Steven, and David Robertson; Sophia, Grace Graff; Zoe and Connor Duguay. One great-grandson Eric Upper-McCleary. Frank and Marylea have three children; Chris (Kim), Camille (Jamie) LeBlanc and Amber (Shawn) Lowmass. Grandchildren; Mackenzie, Ethan, Allison, Grace, Kaley, Aiden, Austin, Asher Lowen; Brady, Kassidy, Raelynn LeBlanc; Josh, Jessica, Dylan Lowmass. Kathleen thought she’d never see great-grandchildren so this is very special. Kathleen was involved in the community, she belonged to Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Royal Purple, Ladies of the Nile, Eastern Star and Women’s Institute. She held a life membership in the Legion. Kathleen loved to travel. She returned to England in 1960 to visit her parents, taking the children to meet their English grandparents. They made this trip a few times over the years. She was lucky to win a trip to Hawaii and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Kenneth and Kathleen took many trips over the years with the Shriners Dinosaur Patrol. Kathleen was a wonderful Mother, Grandma, Great-grandma and Great-great-grandma. She will be missed by all. Service will be held Friday, May 27 at 1:00 pm at St. Magloires Anglican Church, 176 2nd Street West, Drumheller. Lunch to follow upstairs at the Legion Hall.
