HANSEN, Shirley Mavern

March 5, 1931 - January 25, 2015

It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of Shirley Mavern Hansen of Drumheller, beloved wife of Glen Harold Hansen. Shirley passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness at Three Hills Health Centre Continuing Care on January 25, 2015 at the age of 83 years. Shirley was born March 5, 1931. As a young girl, Shirley worked at Eaton’s in Calgary where she met and married Glen. Shirley also worked at Wade’s Jewellery for several years. Shirley and Glen owned and operated Valley Esso Service Station where Shirley was the Bookkeeper for 20 years. Shirley had a great love of dogs. She also enjoyed many years of travelling in their motorhome. Her hobbies included crossword puzzles, reading and crafts. Besides her loving husband Glen, Shirley is survived by her two daughters Judy (Jordan) Mills and Sherry (Lorne) Newman, five grandchildren: Darrell, Lainey, Jamie (Ben), Terry (Sandra) and Logan, as well as three Great Grandchildren: Darcy, Maddison, Maya and one Great Great Grandchild Chiara. Shirley is predeceased by her daughter Lori Ann Hansen and brother Ron Spafford. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.m., on Friday, January 30, 2015, at Courtney-Winters Funeral Home, 199-2nd Street West Drumheller, AB, with Reverend Jerry Beskowine officiating.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Three Hills Health Centre in care of the Continuing Care unit 1504 2nd Street North, Three Hills AB, T0M 2A0 or the S.P.C.A. 1121 South Railway Avenue Drumheller, AB T0J 0Y0. The family would like to thank the staff at The Drumheller Health Centre (Acute Care) and The Three Hills Health Centre (Continuing Care) for the compassionate care given to Shirley and her family. We also wish to thank three special volunteers Heather Palmer, Pete Haugen and Lisbeth Dube.
