HOWARD, Leslie Noel
December 28, 1949 - February 5, 2012
Leslie Noel Howard was born December 28th, 1949, in Calgary, Alberta. He passed away suddenly of a heart attack, on February, 5th, 2012, at his home with his faithful canine companion Sable, by his side. He was 62 years old. Les grew up in the community of Munson. Throughout his life, he had many journeys: Amarillo Texas, Victoria BC, New Zealand and Australia. Les’ warm smile and generosity touched many. He had a great love for animals and was given his first horse Queenie when he was nine. For most of his adult life Les resided on his farm northeast of Munson where he raised his many horses. His most faithful companion was his dog Sable. Sable went everywhere with Les, guarded the truck on many outings to town, monitored Les and his daily chores, running alongside the tractors and trucks in the fields and down the gravel road in pursuit of her best friend. Sadly, Sable passed a few days after Les. Les attended the University of Calgary where he acquired a Bachelor of commerce degree in 1971, leading him to pursue a short career in banking. He then moved on to farming along with the raising of his horses. He was an accomplished saddle maker and was gifted at leather tooling. He was also his ‘own kind’ of musician, playing guitar and piano and penning the lyrics to many songs including “The Tinkling of the Ivories” and ‘Piece of Blue”. He was predeceased by; his parents Jackson Morrow Howard and Audrey Elizabeth Howard. Les is lovingly remembered by: his sisters Roberta (Bruce) Sherley, and Louisa (Dan) Sengaus, both of Calgary, AB, Brother Jack, and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Les’ life will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at COURTNEY-WINTERS FUNERAL HOME, Drumheller, Alberta.
