Thomas Armstrong, beloved husband of Kate Armstrong of Calgary, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 5, 2011 at the age of 89 years. Tom was born in Carbon, Alberta and raised on a farm west of Drumheller on The Pope Lease. Tom served in World War II and upon his return he was stationed out of Wainwright, Alberta, where he met his wife Kate. They then returned to The Pope Lease to farm and raise their family. Along with farming, he led a very busy life running the P & H Elevator, driving school bus and working for Fountain Tire (formally Triad Tire) for many years in Drumheller. Tom enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, woodworking and spending time with his family. Although he was living in the city, nothing made him happier than travelling back to his hometown of Drumheller to visit friends and family. Along with his loving wife of sixty-five years, Thomas is survived by their three sons and three daughters, Helen (Ernie) Brunette, Mona (Randy) Ivan, Donald (Joan) Armstrong, Daniel (Rose) Armstrong, Barb (Jerry) Curran and Thomas (Brenda) Armstrong; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Isa Grenier and Ruby Moskie; and his sister-in-law Fran Hohlbein. Thomas was predeceased by two sisters, Megg Gibson and Vi Williams; his niece Heather Lapham; and two great-grandchildren, Keoma Dawn Burt and Seth Thomas Robinson and son-in-law Peter Luckiw. At Tom’s request, there will be no funeral service. A Remembrance will be held at The Pope Lease Pines Bed and Breakfast in Carbon, AB on Saturday, September 24, 2011 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
