Two Michichi residents who were charged with possession of stolen property saw their charges dropped.
Timothy Closs and Judith Brown appeared in the Alberta Court of Justice in Drumheller on Friday, February 9. Closs pleaded guilty to possession of drugs, operating a motor vehicle while being prohibited, and several breaches.
The charges stem from a stolen property investigation from February of last year. According to a release, on February 28, 2023, Drumheller RCMP received reports of possible stolen property in or near the Drumheller area. The stolen property was reported to be from the City of Calgary and included a white 20’ enclosed Interstate Car Hauler Trailer, a 2000 dark blue Chevrolet pickup truck, and a 2016 pink/blue/yellow Ski-doo Summit X 800R Snowmobile.
Drumheller General Duty members, Drumheller General Investigation Section (GIS), and Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Intelligence members initiated an investigation including locating and recovering the property.
During the investigation, a suspect vehicle was located in Drumheller on March 1 and was subject to a traffic stop where two suspects were arrested and taken into custody.
Upon entering guilty pleas to the driving and drug charges, defense for Closs noted another individual was separately charged who asked to store the vehicles, and his client was not aware they were stolen at the time. The prosecution noted there were triable issues regarding property crime charges.
Closs was fined $1,400 globally. Charges against Brown were dropped.

The Town of Drumheller (TOD) is going to have $2 paid parking for tourists starting this spring.
From Wednesday, May 1, 2024, to Thursday, October 31, 2024, TOD Council approved that there will be paid parking on town-owned lots, and it will be enforced daily from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The locations included in the paid parking program are the Badlands Community Facility, World’s Largest Dinosaur, Riverside Drive E street parking, 1 Street E parking lot, 2 Avenue W parking lot, corner of 2 Street W and Riverside parking lot, as well as the Hoodoos and Suspension Bridge parking lots.
"The paid parking program is a way that the Town of Drumheller can recover some of the costs to Drumheller taxpayers that are associated with increasing tourism in the Valley,” says TOD Councillor Tom Zariski. “A good example of this is the renovations at the Swinging Bridge. The visitors who want to experience the bridge will be charged for parking at this popular tourist destination, and the money will go to Town expenses associated with the recent renovations.”
The costs to tourists will be $2.00/hr in parking lots, $2.50/hr for street parking and $20.00/day.
It will be free to park for residents or people employed in the Valley who register on the Hotspot app for a maximum of four vehicles per household.
