MPs Martin Shields and Damien Kurek, were both re-elected on September 20 in the Federal election as the representatives of their respective ridings of Bow River and Battle River-Crowfoot, which both border the Town of Drumheller, were sworn in as Members of Parliament last month.
MP Shields was sworn in on Tuesday, October 19 to serve in a third term as the Bow River representative, while MP Kurek was sworn in to serve his second term on Thursday, October 28.
“I pledge to work for the constituents of Bow River to the best of my abilities and I am honoured to be re-elected to represent this great riding for a third term,” said MP Shields at his swearing in.
The Bow River riding stretches from the western limits of the Town of Drumheller and encompasses Kneehill County south of Highway 27, Wheatland County, and south to the eastern limits of the Municipal District of Taber, and includes the Town of Strathmore and City of Brooks.

“It is certainly an honour to once again be sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Battle River-Crowfoot. Although there is one name on the ballot, although there is one name on the election sign, it is truly about so many more than one person,” MP Kurek said on Thursday, October 28 during his swearing in.
Battle-River Crowfoot riding borders the Bow River riding from the Town of Drumheller’s western edge to the Alberta-Saskatchewan border, stretching north to the Battle River, and includes a portion of Kneehill County from north of Highway 27.

Drumheller RCMP are asking the public for assistance in identifying a suspect involved in an early morning break and entry at Neighbours’ Corner Pub, at approximately 5 a.m. on Sunday, October 17.
The suspect was seen on surveillance footage approaching Neighbours’ on foot, crossing Highway 9/56 from Valley Plaza at 4:58 a.m. Sunday morning.
“No arrest has been made at this time,” Drumheller RCMP Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant Ed Bourque tells the Mail.
S/Sgt Bourque adds a suspect was interviewed in relation to this incident, however, due to insufficient evidence the investigation is continuing.
The suspect appears to be dressed in a dark or black jacket and baseball cap, with a Halloween mask covering their face, and carrying a dark backpack.
