Aquaplex modernization project to start on May 1.

The Town of Drumheller has laid out a schedule for aquaplex renovations.

New upgrades to the facility include a new pool liner, hot-tub, upgrades to change rooms and reconfiguration of the pool basin with graduated entry. The project will be ramping up May 1.

“We want to make sure the transition for users is as smooth as possible,” said Andrea Leavitt, Aquaplex Manager. “We are working with schools, and other user groups to accommodate their needs as much as possible.”

These improvements were chosen as a result of many discussions with various council members as well as pool user groups last year. The end goal is to have an Aquaplex that is more accessible and enjoyable for users of all ages and swimming abilities.

While the construction is taking place, the outdoor pool will become operational for public use starting on May 15.

“Drumheller is fortunate to have both indoor and outdoor pool facilities,” said Mayor Terry Yemen. “There is nowhere else on earth that you can say that you were swimming under the World’s Largest Dinosaur – it’s an experience that we love to share all summer long.”

The last day of operation fo the indoor pool will be on Sunday, April 30 and visitors are encouraged to check in on the progress being made at www.dinosaurvalley.com.

The Trekcetera museum team has been hard at work for their grand opening on Friday.

On April 14, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. the movie and television museum will open to the public as a year-round attraction.

Including a room dedicated to the 38 piece collection from AMC original ‘Hell on Wheels’, and a few other additions like a real piece of the iconic Titanic ship, the museum is not just for star trek fans.

They have utilized the space by adding in the new Borg Alcove as well as the Shinzon chair where museum visitors can take photos for a small fee.

Devan Daniels and Michael Mangold started the renowned museum in Vulcan, Alta., but felt there was more potential to move to Drumheller after noticing the large amounts of tourism traffic as well as the ability to expand in the larger facility.

Community clean-up slated for April 27

Okay Drumheller! It’s time to pitch in and show pride in our neighbourhoods at the annual Spring Earth Day Clean-up.
The annual clean-up, organized by Heather Colberg is set to go on Thursday, April 27. While April 22 is Earth Day, organizers have moved the clean up for a week later to allow schools to participate.
Along with making our community cleaner, as it turns out, it’s a Canadian thing to do. In fact, Community Clean-up is number 64 on the ParticipACTION Canada 150 activity Playlist, and the local Canada 150 committee is also encouraging as many residents as possible to take part.
The Clean-up goes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 27. There will be GFL green bins placed in areas throughout town. Simply grab your gloves, show up at any of the meeting spots, grab a garbage bag and get picking.
Organizers are challenging businesses and community groups to take an hour or two to make Drumheller a cleaner, more beautiful place.
“We want to try and clean-up all the main areas of the valley and of course with more volunteers, the goal would be to clean up all the communities as well,” said Colberg.
Following the clean up from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., GFL is hosting a volunteer appreciation barbecue at the Badlands Community Facility. Come down and meet representatives and recharge after all the hard work.
For more information or to volunteer, contact Heather Colberg at healthercolberg@icloud.com or 403-823-0811 or Tia Leone Briggs at 403-821-1635.
