RCMP investigate O'Shea's break in

Osheas

Police are investigating a break and enter in the early morning hours of Friday at O'Shea's.
At about 4 am, an unknown culprit smashed through the front door and headed straight for the safe. They were unable to gain access to safe and exited out the back.
"The suspect was in the building for less than a minute," said Corporal Gerald Sherk. "They knew exactly where they were going, to the safe, but they didn't get any access. They also left all the liquor. I have seen smash and grabs where they take the liquor because it is easy to grab, this person went directly to the safe."
"With their knowledge of the business it is likely they were an employee or frequented the business before."
Sherk says they are following up with possible suspects and looking for some additional video from other businesses in the area.
"It is convenient that O'Shea's is located in that corner where there are many other businesses, we are hoping someone else got some video as well," he said.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have information regarding this investigation to contact the Drumheller RCMP at 403-823-7590. If you want to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or by internet at www.tipsubmit.com. You do not have to reveal your identity to Crime Stoppers, and if you provide information to Crime Stoppers that leads to an arrest(s), you may be eligible for a cash reward.

Closure of Christian homeschool association affects Drumheller families

20161031 105307

Alberta Education announced the closure of Trinity Christian School Association along with Wisdom Home Schooling on Tuesday, October 25, leaving 3,500 students without a registered school association. This came as a shock to a few local families.
Education Minister David Eggen canceled Trinity Christian School’s registration and accreditation after what appears to be financial irregularities discovered after its operations were reviewed.
Anna Gullacher, a local Grade 11 student who was enrolled with Wisdom Home Schooling, told inSide Drumheller, “We received a call shortly after three o'clock on Tuesday from Alberta Education. My younger sister thought it was a telemarketer and hung up. So we really didn’t find out until my mom’s friend called.”
Families were contacted through a voice message played over the phone stating that Trinity had been shut down. The families were given no details at the time leaving many worried families unsure of the future of their children’s education.
Anna said, “I didn’t really know what they meant until later that evening. We weren’t really given any instructions as to what to do except that we were to be registered with a new school board within two weeks. It just was really shocking. I’ve always worked really hard to keep my marks high and to be able to finish some of my subjects this year. I have to register for my diplomas but without a school board I can’t register.”
Other school boards such as Golden Hills have issued statements offering registration for any families affected by this school closure. Golden Hills, along with most school boards, have a homeschooling option available, where students are able to continue their home education.
Most parents have found themselves frustrated with the fact that they received no warning and the lack of information provided. Wisdom Home Schooling has now retained legal assistance and most families are holding out until more information is available.
Anna’s mother, Sandra Gullacher is frustrated.
“Home school kids are not social misfits. Our son graduated this past year. He is off on an adventure overseas to Asian cultures in pursuit of experiencing a deeper knowledge of a variety of cultures. He custom fabricates items for RCSparks YouTube channel and he has owned his own business since age 15,” she said. “Our teenage daughter studies hard in preparation for diploma exams in pursuit of entering a post-secondary institute to study Music Therapy. She also teaches piano and holds down a job as a water safety instructor. Our youngest daughter loves learning, competes on a swim team and a dance team.”
“Our kids have been under a great deal of stress this past week due to the actions taken by the Alberta Education department.”

Make a miracle this Christmas

miracle light

In the 10 years since the Morgan Jayne Project was founded, it has made an incredible difference in the lives of families and children in the Roatan. It has literally saved the lives of hundreds of children born into families where Aids is a serious health concern.
One initiative that always brings smiles to the faces for the children in Roatan, and the many generous supports of the project is it annual Christmas Miracle.
The concept is simple, bring Christmas to children where is it just not an option for the family.  These children are the poorest to poor, often orphans, or living a one-parent family because one as died. Many are raised by grandparents and live hand to mouth.
“They will not have Christmas without you,” states the annual wish list. “They constantly struggle the rest of the year so Christmas is the one day a year we give them back their childhood, feed them and give them something they really wanted for Christmas.”
This year there are 90 entries on the wish list. This is the second year that the List has been linked to Amazon, and it has been a great success for the project. In previous years, thousands of dollars went into shipping the gifts to the island. With Amazon, supports can simply use the online retailer and have the items shipped at a fraction of the cost, if not free when using Amazon Prime.
Fred Makowecki, founder of the Morgan Jayne Project understands how difficult it is it this economic climate for many families to be able to give. While many donors will sponsor child’s whole list, supporters can buy as many or as little items, many are $5-$10. The gifts are simple toys or needed clothing.
To support the Christmas Miracle got to the Morgan Jayne Project Facebook page or www.themorganjayneproject.com and follow the Amazon Wish List link. The deadline for ordering is November 15.
