Hanna RCMP arrest man after attempting to remove license plate

Hanna RCMP have arrested a man who was caught trying to remove a license plate from a vehicle on a private property.
On Wednesday, October 4, a resident of Hanna observed a male approaching the rear of her vehicle, which was parked on her private property.
When the male crouched down by her license plate, she confronted him and observed him attempting to remove the license plate. The male ran off and was later located and arrested by the Hanna RCMP.
During the arrest he was found to be breaching a condition of his probation order.
Hanna RCMP Sergeant Rob Welsman stated, “Surveillance cameras were of help in this instance because it not only alerted the homeowner to what was going on, but also made identification of the suspect much easier.”
Scott Douglass Klatt, a 36 year old resident of Hanna, has been charged with one count of mischief and one count of breaching a probation order condition.
After a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, the male was released and will appear at Alberta Court of Justice in Hanna on Wednesday, October 25.


Partners raise funds, donations, for food bank

The Drumheller RCMP, the Salvation Army and Freson Bros. partnered to host Cram the Cruiser Food Drive on Thursday, October 5. They were at Freson Bros collecting food donations, as well as hosting a barbecue to raise funds for the Food Bank. They were helped along by the Verdant Valley and Dorcas Women’s Institute, which donated $500 to The Salvation Army to support their work.

Drumheller RCMP arrest wanted male from Calgary

Drumheller RCMP arrested a man with outstanding warrants out of Calgary on Thursday, October 12 following a recent investigation.
Recently, Drumheller General Investigation Section (GIS), with the assistance of Drumheller General Duty officers, initiated an investigation into a wanted man from Calgary, possibly in the Drumheller area.
“Drumheller RCMP will continue to be proactive, including by intervening with persons on warrants and that are not in compliance with release conditions in efforts to ensure our communities are safe and secure,” stated Drumheller RCMP Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant Rob Harms.
The investigation identified Shayne Righthand, 42, of Calgary was wanted and had outstanding warrants out of Calgary for failing to comply with a Release Order. It was also determined Righthand was in breach of court-imposed release conditions.
At approximately 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, Drumheller RCMP members located and arrested Righthand in the parking lot of Canadian Tire in Drumheller. Further investigation revealed that Righthand was driving with a suspended driver's licence and was in possession of bear spray and fraudulent documents.
In addition to his outstanding warrants, Mr. Righthand was charged with four counts of fail to comply with a release order, possession of a weapon, two counts possession of fraudulent documents, and drive while unauthorized.
The 2015 Mercedes Benz Righthand was driving was seized for 30 days pursuant to Provincial Sanctions.
Righthand was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody and appeared in Alberta Court of Justice in Drumheller on Friday, October 13 to answer to charges.
