Rotary’s annual Citizen of Year, Most Courteous Employee nominees named

The nominations are in and the candidates have been announced for the Rotary club’s Citizen of the Year and Most Courteous Employee awards.     The event will be held at the Rosedale Hall on May 7.
Linda Lacher and Bev Wilson had their names narrowed down from seven nominations from residents for the Citizen of the Year award.
Lacher’s nomination letter said she has volunteered and worked in various community roles for the past 15 years since she and her family moved to Drumheller.
For the last 14 years, Lacher has driven many children to school as a bus driver for Southland Transportation, and has been heavily involved with hockey in Drumheller – working the arena concession and currently sits as president of the Drumheller Minor Hockey Association, serving on the board for over five years. She volunteers with the St. Anthony’s grad committee, is an executive member of the Drumheller Music Festival, volunteers with the Salvation Army, Heart and Stroke or Cancer campaigns, casino fundraising for the Lion’s Club.
“Linda takes great pride in her community role as she has raised three children in Drumheller and loves to know the kids and families that make Drumheller great,” reads her nomination letter.
Bev Wilson volunteers with the annual influenza vaccination campaign, seniors' health resource program, and at Sunshine and Hillview senior lodges.
She has contributed endless hours towards the Passion Play, in public health groups, 4-H, the Music Festival, After Five Club, Classroom Agriculture Programs, Knox United Church and other local initiatives.
“I have known Bev for many years and she has been more active in the community than anyone I know,” wrote her nominator Carol Stanford. “During this time, she worked in the health care profession as a registered nurse. Even in retirement, Bev continues to be an active member in a field so dear to her heart.”
“Bev’s sense of community and commitment are evident through her participation in a wide variety of organizations and projects for people of all ages,” Stanford finished.
The Most Courteous Employee nominees are Kathy Dudley and Virginia Duncan, narrowed down from five names.
Dudley has been working for the Drumheller Health Centre as an Administration Secretary for the past four years, and her nominator D.K. Nagy wrote, “Kathy not only makes extraordinary contributions, she willingly shares her gifts and talents with everyone she touches daily. Her ability to treat others with respect and compassion at all times is truly an extraordinary trait which creates an environment that draws the very best from those around her.”
Dudley assists with the organization of several Christmas celebrations, a member of the Wellness Committee, and is very involved in planning monthly staff events to promote wellness.
The second nominee, Virginia Duncan, has worked at Hi-way 9 Express since 2002. Her nominator wrote, “She is a very dedicated employee that has no problem helping out anyone who needs it. She is the perfect example of customer service, as she does not just understand it, she practices it on an everyday basis.”
Last year’s Citizen of the Year winner was Heather Colberg.
