Newcastle Association looking for more board members
“We’re trying to get people involved, because the hall is a major part of the little community here in Newcastle,”
“It’s been here for quite a few years.”
Renovations had recently been completed, with new floors, wall paint, and new bathrooms added over the last two years, totalling $47,000.
“It’s viable, it’s basically running itself,” Bergos says, adding they are on the lottery circuit which sees funds put back into the youth in the community, some being funds to both high schools, the Drumheller skating club.
Ideally, the association is looking for six people to join the board, to make a total of eight.
“It doesn’t necessarily have to be community members, it can be people from outside the community,” says past-treasurer Tana Toffan.
“We’d definitely look at having people from the outside.”
“It’s booked every week, its not that it’s a useless building. Volunteering seems to be dwindling, people just don’t have the time. It’s sad, we have a lot of funds but can’t distribute them if we don’t have board members.”
The association will be holding their next meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, February 28 at the Newcastle Hall.
