It is a tradition for the Village of Carbon for residents to go barreling down Essex Street protected by a helmet and carton on wheels. On Saturday, July 22 the Carbon Legion hosted some good old-fashioned fun, with its annual Soapbox Derby Race. The Fire Department and Carbon Lions cars were on track for young and old to take a run in front of dozens of spectators. The Carbon Legion’s famous Pelican took to the track as well but had a few technical difficulties. Residents and visitors enjoyed the afternoon of speed and even a couple of crashes.
