While spring has just sprung, already the valley is seeing a full-fledged feature film using Drumheller as a set.
This week many have seen action in downtown Drumheller as crews work on the Bollywood spy drama Khufiya.
According to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), the film is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, who is also credited as a writer. It is based on the novel Escape to Nowhere by Amar Bhushan, inspired by true events.
The film features many well-known Bollywood actors, as well as Ali Fazal who appeared along with Judy Dench in Victoria and Abdul, and appeared in Death on the Nile.
The film also features Tabu, whose career has spanned four decades and appeared in Life of Pi.
The film centres around Krishna Mehra, a spy who is assigned to track a mole selling Indian defence secrets.
The film is being shot in various locations including local neighbourhoods as well as downtown.
According to a Netflix press release, Director Bhardwaj said, “With Khufiya, my attempt is to create an edgy espionage film that contrasts the slow burn of intelligence and surveillance work with one’s deep rooted emotional conflicts.”
The production is listed as being in post-production, and there is no release date listed.
