Although the Rotary Radio Auction was unable to go ahead last year, the annual event will be back on Thursday, October 28.
This year, the Badlands Historical Centre, just north of the post office, will be the venue for the radio auction, and the event will also move to one night only.
“This is the very first year we’re going to one night only, usually it’s a two night affair,” says event chairperson Linda Fisher. “We’re just not certain how the pandemic might affect everything.”
Despite the uncertainty, Fisher says the response from the business community has been fantastic.
The radio auction has been a regular occurrence in the Drumheller Valley since the early 1960s when it first started.
She explains businesses in the community donate items for the auction, and the proceeds are 100 per cent put back into the community through Rotary projects. One of these projects was the installation of new chairs at the Drumheller Health Centre, which was recently completed.
She notes the Rotary will be celebrating 100 years in Drumheller in 2024, and some of the proceeds from the radio auction may go towards the celebration, though this has not yet been decided.
Fisher welcomes the public to come to the Badlands Historical Centre, downtown Drumheller, north of the Post Office, on Wednesday, October 27 and Thursday, October 28 between noon and 4 p.m. to check out the items and pre-bid; the auction will be held live on Radio 910 and bids can be placed live at the Historical Centre as well.
“We will be following Alberta Health regulations. Proof of vaccination, proof of medical excemption or a negative, private Covid-19 test will be required to enter the facility along with wearing a mask,” said Fisher.
